“Everybody has something that makes them special,” Maria Corley said.

In the case of her son, Malcolm, it’s his artistic ability. But it’s also the fact that he’s autistic.

The Lancaster woman and her 23-year-old son recently exhibited his art work at the Nyeusi Gallery in Harrisburg. One of the paintings featured the quote: “Perfection isn’t a requirement for beauty.”

“Not that you’re not perfect if you have a disability,” Maria said, “but I know a lot of people who look upon that as an imperfection. So, to me that was a meaningful thing. He’s just a regular guy who has this real artistic gift that he takes in stride.”
